All three start from the same raw random source and then color it differently. White noise takes each random sample and scales it down to about 58% of full range for a comfortable listening level, with no filtering — every frequency carries equal energy. Pink noise runs that same random signal through a seven-coefficient filter bank (the standard Paul Kellet approximation) that reduces high-frequency energy at a steady rate, producing the smoother, less hissy character people associate with pink noise. Brown noise goes further: a leaky integrator followed by a DC-blocking high-pass filter, then a fixed 4.2x scale-up and a further 1.1x loudness boost applied only to brown — because that heavy low-frequency shaping otherwise makes brown noise sound quieter than white or pink at the same volume setting.
Mono mode plays the identical signal on both channels. Stereo mode generates a shared "center" noise stream and two additional, fully independent left and right noise streams, then blends them per channel according to the stereo width percentage: at 0% width, both channels play only the shared stream (indistinguishable from mono despite being in stereo mode); at 100%, both channels play only their own independent stream, with none of the shared signal left. Nothing about width moves the sound left or right — it only controls how correlated the two channels are with each other.
Beyond the base noise color, five filter bands — Sub (90 Hz, low-shelf), Bass (250 Hz, peaking), Mid (1 kHz, peaking), Presence (3.5 kHz, peaking), and Air (9 kHz, high-shelf) — each adjust independently from -12 dB to +12 dB. Four presets set all five bands at once: Flat leaves every band at 0 dB; Sleep lifts Sub and Bass slightly while cutting Presence and Air for a darker tone; Focus lifts Mid and Presence a little for extra clarity; Deep pushes Sub up further while cutting Presence and Air harder than Sleep does. Moving any slider by hand after applying a preset switches the display to "Custom curve."
The black-screen mode fills the browser viewport and fades its playback controls out after about 2.6 seconds of no interaction, bringing them back on any tap, click, or keypress. There is no built-in duration control, countdown, or automatic stop anywhere in this feature — playback continues until you stop it yourself or leave the page.
